Description:Honoring the memory of Major Bong and the other men and women of World War II who contributed to winning the peace, the center is located on the bayfront in Superior (Bong's birthplace), about 15 miles west of Poplar (Bong's boyhood home) at the junction of US Highways 2 and 53.
The building is a brushed aluminum structure, rising dramatically on the waterfront to suggest the gracefulness of an airplane swooping through the sky. The heritage center opened in 2002.
