Motorcycle Honor Ride

UPDATE: For registered riders, the mandatory safety meeting for the Honor Ride from La Crosse to Green Bay will take place at: 7:30 pm Thursday at Neuie's Varsity Club 1920 Ward Avenue, La Crosse, WI 54601. Riders and other participants are invited to come early at 5:30 p.m. for a Meet & Greet, and Pizza from Baus Catering. A live band will provide entertainment starting at 6 p.m.

If you are unable to attend the Safety and Planning meeting, or you are unable to leave on Friday morning from La Crosse, the only other point to join the ride as an "official" member of the Honor Ride is to be at Timber Rattler Stadium in Appleton at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 21.

On the morning of Friday, May 21, an Honor Ride of 1,244 Wisconsin Vietnam veterans and Vietnam-era veterans - representing the Wisconsinites who were killed-in-action (KIA) in Vietnam and those missing-in-action (MIA) for whom we still search - will leave La Crosse and cross the  state, arriving in Green Bay in the afternoon.

Registration is now available for the Honor Ride. All Vietnam and Vietnam-era veterans, all other veterans, and immediate family members are eligible to register. When registration closes on May 12, the organizers will count how many Vietnam and Vietnam-era veterans have registered for the ride and give them first choice at being among the Honor Riders. If that number is less than 1,244, then other veterans and those riding for a specific Vietnam KIA or MIA relative (perhaps a son or daughter riding for their father) will be asked to join the Honor Riders.

The Honor Riders will essentially "ride point" from La Crosse to Green Bay. Other riders will make up the "rear guard" for the Honor Ride. Like the Honor Riders, all riders will be leaving La Crosse in smaller groups at different intervals to avoid congestion and collisions on the road.

Specific details about the times and routes, along with the "rules of the road," will be sent to registered riders by -we hope- May 17. We encourage you to register by email for a quicker response, but there is a printable document to give to those without computer access, with a mailing address included.

At the La Crosse meetings, the designated Honor Riders will be informed of a Honor Ride package from Global recognition to include a LZ Lambeau Honor Ride patch, windscreen logo, hatpin, and a LZ Lambeau Honor Ride challenge coin. This package costs $20, a portion of which will go to Vietnam veteran organizations and to help defray the cost of the ride. Other Honor Ride patches and souvenirs, as well as LZ Lambeau memorabilia will be available at Green Bay on the Lambeau grounds.

We know there are many riders, family members and friends who want to be a part of this honoring of Wisconsin's KIA and MIA, and to honor the veterans making the ride. Friends and family are invited to join the Rear Guard, but more than that we would like to encourage family and friends to come to Lambeau Field at about 1pm on Friday, May 21 so you have enough time to park and find a place by 2pm to stand along the street leading up to The Moving Wall™. Imagine what it will be like when the LZL Honor Ride members arrive about 2pm to a large and enthusiastic crowd lining their route.

Please join us at LZ Lambeau for the honoring of our fallen, and a grand welcome for those who carry their memories.

We want to thank you for your patience in the wait for more information. Most of all, we want to thank the representatives of our Vietnam veterans motorcycle community, and for the many law enforcement representatives from state, county and local agencies who worked long hours and gave up many of their weekends to hammer out a mutually agreed upon route, process, and timing for the ride. You guys are great!
